| There's so much to do
at the camp, and so much is educational. We call our activities "Classes,"
but some of it is just plain old fun. Here's a list of the various classes
the Ranch Hands will enjoy: |
|
Classes | Electives | Evening
Activities
- HORSE
RIDING
Every camper gets to ride every day if they choose. Under
the guidance of our award winning trainers, Ranch Hands will be trained
based on their experience while riding outdoors at the O.K.
Corral. Riders must wear an ASTM approved equestrian riding helmet at all
times while on horseback. Helmets are provided by the camp Ranch or you
are welcome to bring your own approved equestrian helmet.
- VAULTING / HORSEBACK
GYMNASTICS
Vaulting, or Horseback Gymnastics, will bring out the stunt-rider
in those who chose this activity. Starting at the Vaulting
Arena, riders learn their techniques on stationary pads before
performing at the Horse Show
Arena in the weekly show. See also our Vaulting World
pages
- ANIMAL SCIENCE
CLASSROOM
A well deserved break in the Animal Sciences
classroom teaches Ranch Hands the basics of ranch animals and their
care. Don't worry; that knocking on the roof is only the mountain goats
hiking their favorite inclines.
- HORSE SCIENCE
CLASSROOM
We won't make veterinarians out of Ranch Hands, but we will
educate on equine sciences including care, anatomy and biology.
- ANIMAL
CARE
Each Ranch Hand has his own animal project. You will have the
opportunity to learn how to raise and care for your own farm animals.
It's all part of the ranch experience and builds great pride and
teamwork within the group. |

Classes
| Electives | Evening
Activities
- ARCHERY
Target
practice and accuracy contests after comprehensive safety and shooting
lessons, review, testing and technique pointers.
- RIFLERY SAFETY
AND TARGET PRACTICE
Learn safety and respect
for guns and ammunition. Ranch Hands are required to pass a one hour
safety class before they are allowed to shoot .22 caliber rifles at
targets. (Campers must be at least 12 years old to participate in the
.22 rifle activities; campers under the age of 12 may participate using
air rifles.)
All shooting is Staff supervised with safety and respect for guns
as lesson number one; accuracy and fun are secondary. Campers have the
option to select their own electives during the week; if parents would
prefer their child not participate in this elective they should discuss
this with their camper prior to arrival at camp.
- SWIMMING
Pool is open during
Summer and Spring sessions, and as weather allows. Lifeguard is on duty
but swimming lessons are not provided.
- WESTERN CRAFTS
Learn
while you create crafts from leather, beads, gems and other Cowboy
items.
- COUNTRY WESTERN
DANCING
Line dancing, square dancing and good 'ol country stompin' at
some evening activities.
- CREATIVE WRITING
Learn
the craft of creative writing. Work on story structure, dramatic theme
and character development.
- OUTDOOR COOKING
Learn
the tricks and techniques to safely make and cook on an open
fire. |

will take place each week during the camp evenings. Because many Ranch
Hands stay for more than one week, we do our best to vary the programs and
always provide something different.
